Loyalist College Launches Home Share Loyalist Alternative Housing Initiative

Loyalist College is matching students with older adults as part of a new initiative promoting intergenerational living in the region. Home Share Loyalist is an alternative housing model designed to generate many benefits in response to shifting demographics and community needs.

“It may not completely solve the housing crisis in Quinte, but it’s a start. That is the message from Loyalist College lead researcher Doctor Kim Bergeron about its Home Share Program, which is being launched Saturday at Belleville’s Market Square.”

It’s a feeling common in many rural communities across the country: unprecedented change.

Nestled on the northern shore of Lake Ontario, the Bay of Quinte is one rural region experiencing rapid growth and development. Spurred by the pandemic and a shifting economic landscape, the population of Belleville alone has increased by 8.6 per cent since 2016, making it one of the fastest-growing cities in Eastern Ontario.
